Stick with me on this – it actually makes sense.
On October 16, 2014, while the Ferguson Grand Jury was still deliberating, comedian Hannibal Buress did an extended bit about the rape charges in Cosby’s home town of Philadelphia. Why did Philadelphia Magazine publish that? Do they publish excerpts of all comedy acts?
A good guess is that the people in the group that held me prisoner (See ‘the Conversation’) wanted to rock Bill’s world at the same time the jury was deliberating about the shooting of an unarmed, black teenager by white Officer Darren Wilson.
Just before October 16, I saw someone from The Cosby Show talking about how well the show was doing in syndication and how it was one of the few remaining wholesome family shows on television. It gave kids something to watch other than the death, destruction, vampires and zombies that currently pervade the networks. I was told by Rita in the Conversation that they tried to take down Bill Cosby by killing his son Innes. Rita said the message had been sent. If someone doesn’t know it’s a message, then how can they pick the message up. These vile people do not stop, once they’ve decided to do something, they’ll keep trying.
I may be the one who gave Bill Cosby his start in TV and so they feel they own him. In his act, Bill says he told Innes, ”I’m the one who brought you into this world, and I can take you out.” It was a funny line about a father at odds with his teenage son: the line got a big laugh. That’s the way the cult felt about Bill Cosby – they made him famous, they can end it all for him. to be clear, Bill Cosby became famous and the cult didn’t stop him. They didn’t make him famous.
Years and years ago I worked in television. Even though I’m a girl, I got my start as Little Ricky on the I Love Lucy Show, and I kept making suggestions that were so funny that, before I could read, I was one of their writers. (I was three or four) From then on I was always asked about what I thought should be on TV and came up with many, many shows. Someone came up with the show about tennis players who were also spies. They asked me what to call the show and who they could get for the younger tennis player. I suggested I Spy as the name and Bill Cosby as the actor. I think Bill was the first black man to have a significant role on a television show. The cult didn’t like the fact that I suggested a black man, but they didn’t have the power they do today.
Years later when I was asked for an idea for a TV show I suggested getting Bill Cosby and using his standup act as a basis for the show because he did a forty-five minute routine about how his family operated – and it was very funny. He had five children, I said they could possibly use four children. And so the show was put together and since I had a good reputation at orchestrating TV comedy startups, I was there when the show was beginning. Since Bill had five children in his family and he drew his comedy from his life, he wanted to add the fifth child, which I believe they did in the third episode.
The show was a tremendous hit. The children were all amazingly talented and I suggested that they give the children as much free rein as possible, something Bill said he would never do in real life. What everyone needs to remember is that Bill Cosby is not Dr. Huxtable. Bill Cosby admits to not being as good a father as Dr. Huxtable, and says Dr. Huxtable made him be a better father.
Some years after the show aired and was such a fabulous hit, the powers that be, the powers that currently run the sleazy, ever-darkening, tawdry entertainment industry, decided to take Mr. Cosby down a peg and they killed his son Innes.
That didn’t work. Mr. Cosby did not retire, he didn’t go away, he hardly broke his stride even though I know it pained him greatly. So women began coming forward with allegations of molestation. Some of the allegations may well be true, but I’m sure that some are not, (just as I’m sure that many of the witnesses in the Michael Brown case are bogus.) One woman has admitted to being coerced into lying. One of the women alleged she was raped twice. If she felt she was truly raped, why would she put herself in the same situation again? And why bring it all back up now – so many years after the dust settled on those allegations? It’s likely because Bill Cosby did not retire and his show was still popular.
I believe it’s because the timing was right to hurl another stone at the African-American community. The country’s in turmoil once again due to the injustice and the inequality of the treatment of African-American males in this country.
The feeling of futility and abandonment in the Ferguson tragedy is repeated, to a lesser extent, by dragging this American icon through the mud. Cosby was a father figure to two generations of American children, both black and white. The evil powers that be can’t have that.
I wish the TV stations that were rerunning the Cosby show would reconsider because it truly is one of the few good family shows. Call it -The Huxtables – or something.
The media HAS TO let this story go. Morning talk shows have to stop using Cosby as fodder. Bill Cosby HAS TO retire. He should have retired as soon as these allegations surfaced, if he had, none of this would be happening now. The timing of this sucks.
Bill Cosby also should apologize for hurting his family and failing his fans by making flawed decisions that he now knows were an egregious trespasses on the dignity of women. He should then announce he’s withdrawing from public life. He should apologize to the women whose lives and dignity he damaged and say he hopes they can forgive him. Lastly he could say the only surefire way to make sure your wife doesn’t find out you’ve cheated on her, is not to cheat on her.
Timing is everything. What about Ray Rice? He and his fiancée had a brawl in an elevator on February 15th AM – probably after Valentine’s night didn’t go well (there’s so much pressure on Valentine’s Day) He was fined two games and had to go to counseling. He married Janay, who didn’t seem to think the fight was anything to change her life for, and they proceeded to build a good life. Football season started and things were going well for Rice, so seven months later, on September 8th, TMZ has to take him down a peg and they released the elevator surveillance world-wide. The NFL said they never saw that video, and they probably never did. It was being kept by someone at TMZ until it could do the most harm. Timing, and access to the media, is everything.
The country HAS TO wake up to the fact that there are malicious, scheming, home-grown, right-wing terrorists and propagandists who have to be stopped before things can settle down. We could all “Just get along” if the pot weren’t continually being stirred up.
